Tooth Woes

Posted in Erin Chloe, Family, Home Front, Mommy Diaries on 11 October 2007 by Leah

Erin has been very irritable since yesterday. She did not want to be left alone in her cot and she cried for most of the afternoon. She wanted to be carried and did not allow me to even sit down. She wasn’t hungry either. I was baffled! I did not know anymore what to do to pacify her and I was getting tired already.

So I took a peek at her gums to see if that was the source of her discomfort. And there it was!

There was a tiny white dot on her gums, which I originally thought was just a food particle. But when I tried to remove it, it would not budge an inch. Now I could conclude that, as of yesterday, she was finally teething! ๐Ÿ™‚

The one erupting at the moment is actually her left lateral incisor of her lower jaw, which is unusual as it’s the central ones that usually come out first. I’ll take a picture of it when it’s more prominent.

Now I need to shop around for her own toothbrush and toothpaste. Erin is definitely growing up fast. ๐Ÿ™‚

Surprises

Posted in Aussie Life, Erin Chloe, Family, Home Front on 9 October 2007 by Leah

I love surprises. But, only the pleasant ones, of course! ๐Ÿ™‚

This morning, the mailman handed over to me three parcels which came from our relatives in the States (J’s uncle, to be exact).

They were all addressed to J and me, but we knew they were all for the little girl. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you, Tita A and Tito E for all the wonderful pressies! ๐Ÿ™‚

And just when I thought that that was the end of our excitement for the day, I heard another knock on the door. It was the mailman once again. He forgot to drop off a bigger package that was still addressed to us.

And yes, it was again for Erin. This bub sure is getting spoilt! ๐Ÿ˜€

Book Heaven

Posted in Aussie Life, Books, Family, Mommy Diaries, Shopping on 8 October 2007 by Leah

Ayayay… I am just a weakling when it comes to books, especially when they are on my most wanted list!

Yesterday, we went to Big W to do a little shopping. I had already one book in mind, which I had decided to purchase a week ago after losing it in an auction on eBay. But, lo and behold, we discovered that they were putting up a lot of their books on sale. And I’m not talking itty-bitty discounts here. It was a huge 35% off! I was desperately trying to keep true to my one-book-limit. That is until I saw Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants in the bottom shelf. You see, I have been searching for this book for some time now.

J must have seen the sheer desperation in my eyes, as I kept looking back at the shelves while we were walking away. I was also mumbling that I probably wouldn’t be able to get any sleep at all that night. Finally, he uttered, “Kunin mo na! (Get it already!)”

I was delighted, of course, to hear these words. But I was also ashamed that I had given in, once again, to my addiction. In return, I promised J I’ll stay clear of all those book shops in the coming weeks. Well, I’ll try. Easier said than done! ๐Ÿ˜›

Our Little Postie

Posted in Aussie Life, Erin Chloe, Family, Home Front, Mommy Diaries on 4 October 2007 by Leah

Every day, little Erin and I go out in the mid-afternoon to get our mail. It has been sunny (and quite windy) the past few days so I always make it point for her to wear a hat. Today, I let her wear a bright pink brimmed hat, which was a gift from one of our friends here. She looked so adorable in it that I just had to call for an impromptu photo session with her.

Dress-up Time

Posted in Aussie Life, Erin Chloe, Family, Home Front on 2 October 2007 by Leah

Yesterday, our family was invited to a party by friends. We saw this as another opportunity for Erin to play dress-up once again. ๐Ÿ™‚

And since spring is in full swing now in our part of the world, we thought this cute flower-y outfit was just perfect. This was given to her by her Ninang A who is known to love the color yellow so much (hence the clothes).

The outfit was supposed to fit a one-year-old child but the top fit Erin well around the shoulders so we went along with it. It came with matching bloomers which revealed her chubby thighs for all the world to see. ๐Ÿ™‚

Contemplating on QE (once again!)

Posted in Aussie Life, Erin Chloe, Family, Mommy Diaries on 27 September 2007 by Leah

Yes, you heard me. Remember my post on QE? Well, J and I are thinking of having ourselves booked once again. We thought we were doing fine with Erin in the last few months. But recently, she’s been very difficult with us and it is so hard for all of us to get a good night’s sleep.

We were watching the first episode of Parent Rescue on SBS last night and we could relate so much to one couple who’s baby had basically the same settling issues as Erin. After watching the show, J and I now think that maybe trying QE would not be such a bad idea at this point. But still, it will be our last resort.

I have bought the Sleep Right, Sleep Tight book to see if we can manage to employ the same settling techniques on Erin on our own. If this still doesn’t work, then I’m afraid we’re off to QE for good. Wish us luck!

Ten on Tuesday: 10 Things I’ve Been Putting Off

Posted in Aussie Life, Family, Home Front, Meme, Mommy Diaries on 25 September 2007 by Leah

It’s time for .

  1. Organising Erin’s stuff – The little girl has accumulated loads of stuff over the months and I have yet to sort them all out into these categories: to put away in boxes (for future use [?]), to give away, and to use ASAP.
  2. Read my books – I still have tons of books to read. I just can’t seem to find the time to read these days. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
  3. Clean! – I’m such a neat freak so it bothers me a lot when things are a mess. As much as I would want to partake in the cleaning duties in our home, sadly these days, most of them are delegated to J.
  4. Do some gardening – Before Erin was born, J and I regularly did some gardening on weekends. He was (still is) in charge of weeding while I trimmed the bushes and trees. We find the activity therapeutic.
  5. Going home to Manila – Understandably, with Erin being so young, we won’t be able to come home to Manila for the holidays. We’re postponing our trip to next year, after she turns a year older.
  6. Pamper myself at a salon or spa – I’m doing this when we get to Manila. I think I just sooooo deserve it. I’m getting the works! ๐Ÿ˜›
  7. Go shopping alone – I’m saving up for this one. I can’t wait to shop with my lone self. It’s been awhile. I think I can maximize this one when we’re in Manila.
  8. Sleep at least 8 hours – This, of course, is unintentional and is totally dependent on Erin.
  9. Taking my driver’s examination – I still don’t have my learner’s license. I actually flunked the exam when I took it last year and was so traumatized (it ain’t easy, plus it’s so expensive!) by it that I have not tried to take it again. I know I need to seriously put in more effort when I review for the test so that I can drive our car if the need arises.
  10. Get fully accredited in my profession – I still need to complete the second part of the board’s assessment which requires me to go on supervised work. It’ll take me six months to complete it if I work fulltime. It’s a no-can-do situation right now because I have to take care Erin first.

Wow, I didn’t realise there’s so much that I’ve been putting off. Until Erin’s grown up a bit, I think I won’t be crossing out much from this list any time soon.

How about you? What is on your list?
